choosing the appropriate technique
My massage therapy approach incorporates both western or eastern bodywork modalities. Since each client situation is unique, I may employ Swedish massage techniques (soft tissue stroking, kneading, vibrating, tapping and compression); body alignment and postural correction; range of motion exercises and active or passive stretching; and/or deep tissue manipulation. The work may also include attention to specific eastern
acupressure points and meridians to intuitively redirect or free energy flow.
I offer each massage therapy session as a mindfulness practice, that is, one where we develop moment to moment awareness of the ever-evolving state of mind, body and
spirit. Touch therapy can be used to support and promote such an awareness to achieve “whole person” healing and well-being. I also bring to the work an emerging knowledge of the principles and theory of
somaticatic psychology where the conditions of the body are affected by and reflected in conditions of the mind and spirit, and vice
versa.
